Summer sports and leisure activities
Activity holidays and sports in the French Alps
As the sun grows stronger, Megève’s mountains become a summer playground for outdoor sports enthusiasts.
There are over 300km of marked trails in Megève offering challenges for all walking, hiking and mountain biking fitness levels. The scenery is truly spectacular with views across the Mont Blanc massif. Lower trails weave through pine forests and rich alpine pastures, gradually leading up rockier paths to reach the higher peaks. Choose a marked route, or join an organised guide.
Bike enthusiasts staying at the Hotel Chalet d’Antoine are well based to enjoy the ultimate in alpine on and off road cycling experiences. Plus for more competitive cyclists, the town hosts regular cycle sport events.
In addition there are many other local mountain sports to enjoy. What about horse riding, parapenting, mountain climbing or white-water rafting? Perfect for high-adrenaline junkies, too.
For a more leisurely approach
Whatever type of holiday is on the agenda, the mountain environment offers something for everyone.
At the Palais des Sports leisure centre there are so many fun things to do – all under one roof! Just a short walk from the Hotel Chalet d’Antoine, the town’s centrepiece sports centre offers a comprehensive range of activities for all the family. The special rate Megève Pass is available from the Centre, offering some great savings.
The aquatic centre has a heated Olympic outdoor pool with 70 metre water slide. The outdoor pool is open from 15 June to 30 June (12pm to 7.30 pm) and from 1 July to 31 August (10am to 7.30pm). The grounds have relaxation and play areas with picnic tables and deck chairs; there are basketball, beach volleyball and table tennis areas, and for the younger ones, a sand pit and swings. There are also two indoor pools, one for small children, plus a relaxation area with saunas and turkish bath.
(Please note that there are different swimwear rules for pools in France and men are not allowed to wear long board shorts in the swimming pools).
Other facilities in the centre include an international ice rink, gym and fitness centre offering a range of classes, curling rink, indoor tennis court, sports hall, spa, multi-media library and conference facilities. There’s outdoor mini-golf and a skate park too.
This region is a true golfing paradise. The Hotel Chalet d’Antoine makes the perfect base for a golfing break with the family, or a group of like-minded friends. What better way to spend a summer’s day! There are a number of great alpine courses in the area to choose from, all offering different challenges.
From luxurious spas to natural springs, take time out to rejuvenate and revitalize. Megève has more than its fair share of great spas providing a range of pamper services and beauty treatments. www.megève.com provides a comprehensive listing.
At the more affordable end, the Palais des Sports Leisure Centre has a Deep Nature Spa des Sports providing relaxation facilities and a range of therapies.
Saint Gervais is a short hop down the main road out of Megève. The Spa Baths are well worth a visit. The baths are located within 10 acres of glorious parkland and have welcomed visitors since 1807. The hot springs are renowned for their exceptional therapeutic properties.
